Jeff & Jenny’s Wedding @ Glenelg Seawall Apartments

Jeff had originally planned to propose a couple of times. Once he was thwarted by weather and another time by nerves. But finally he built up the courage to ask one night in their kitchen. Romantic!

Jeff and Jenny wrote their own vows. A few of Jeff’s words stuck in my head. He said until he met Jenny he thought marriage was only for the young and the romantic. But when he’s with Jenny he feels both young and romantic. So sweet. Even he shed a tear at his own words [or maybe it was beacause Jenny had her beautiful eyes fixed on him bubbling with love and emotion.

Jeff & Jenny had planned their surprise wedding (guests were invited to an engagement party) to be held on Glenelg Beach. The diffused light was perfect for wedding photography but the wind and cold made it impractical. So the wedding ceremony was held inside the Seawall Apartments on the Esplanade at Glenelg. We later took photos around the apartments and with Glenelg Beach and the jetty in the background.

Jenny made her own dress – up until the day of the wedding! And as Jeff is really into photography the “engagement party” had lots of great photos of the two of them. My personal favourite was the two of them lying tummy down on a couch on an Ikea catalogue cover.

This was also the first wedding [in the world??] where the groom’s parents attended via skype on an iPad (from the UK); ingenious!

Steevie & Shaz’s Wedding @ St Stephens, Willunga & McLaren Vale

Steevie & Shaz (Steevie being the bride and Shaz the Groom).

The ceremony was held at St Stephens Church in Willunga & we took bridal photos at McLarens on the Lake, McLaren Vale and at the Willunga Peacock Farm (the reception venue).

I went to the same school and even had a lot of the same friends as Steevie. But she always seemed so mature to me though back then. Perhaps I’ve grown up, or may be she’s lowered to my level, but the maturity divide seems to have evaporated and we had a lot of fun.

Shaz and the Groomsmen are keen fishermen and love their fords – Shaz was still finishing off the polish on his car when I arrived to start photographing the day.

Thanks heaps once again for having me along Steevie & Shannon!

Wes & Leann’s Wedding @ The Lazy Ballerina, McLaren Vale

A few months ago my good friend Cassie messaged me to ask if I’d like to photograph her sister’s wedding. I immediately replied, ‘Hell yeah! Is she getting married to the magnet dude (a guy who studies magnets)?’ ‘No, my other sister, you know, Leann – with the girls..’

So I have to admit I didn’t really remember Leann too well from Cassie’s wedding. I remember my boys having a ball with her daughters on the dance floor. But naturally, as a wedding photographer, I was still keen as to cover the wedding.

A couple of months passed and Leann and Wes were kind enough not just to have me cover their wedding, but to invite my partner and kids along too as guests. Along with the wedding invitation we received were 3 tickets; for my kids Tommo, Tyler and Tessa. On the tickets was written ‘popcorn, fairy floss, jumping castle, candy’. Sounded like fun.

I met with Leann once before the day and we discussed the normal wedding stuff. I soon realised she has a unique sense of humour – not unlike my own.

The day of the wedding came. It started off relaxed at Leann’s accommodation in McLaren Vale. It soon became chaos – like all weddings – time constrained, quickly changing light and so on. Once the ceremony was over and the guests had started to mung into their fairy floss, we went for a walk around the gardens of The Lazy Ballerina. This is when I realised I wish I had gotten to know Leann and Wes better at Cassie’s wedding. Not only is their wicked sense of humour infectious, they have an obvious love for each other and are both sweet human beings in their own right.

The kids had a ball (and adults actually) eating tons of fairy floss and playing on the jumping castle and lawns – All. Day. Long. Underground Orchid played some fantastic music that really set the tone of the day – a talented band with vast repertoire of music.

Congratulations to you and your whole family – a thoroughly enjoyable day celebrating the commitment of two wonderful people.

Lily & Aaron @ Beaumont House

I first photographed Lily and Aaron a few months ago at their engagement session in Port Adelaide. From start to finish they were fun, excited and obviously in love.

Yesterday marked not only the start of their marriage, but 8 years of their relationship. Congratulations on both.

Their bridal party (siblings and good friends) were amazing the whole day, so much fun and up for anything. And the guests of this wedding were all friendly and keen to help Aaron and Lily celebrate at Beaumont House.

Aaron made my day by giving me the best compliment of my short wedding photographer career; “If I’d known you before today, I would have invited you as a guest.”

Thanks once again for having me as your wedding photographer.

Hugs & smiles from Ross & Courteney’s wedding

Preparation shots can be emotional. Bridal group shots can be fun/creative. The ceremony can be full of romance. But, these are the moments that motivate me. These are the shots I think, ‘Can’t wait to see this on the big screen when I get home’. These moments are why I love photographing wedding days. The congratulations, the celebratory mood, and let’s not forget the cute elderly people.

Courteney & Ross @ Stonyfell Winery Vintage Hall

A wedding day celebrated with friends and family from as far away as Sweden (about as far away from Australia before you start heading back again the other way), Courteney and Ross held their wedding ceremony and reception in the Vintage Hall at Stonyfell Winery – about 15 minutes from Adelaide.

A truly sweet couple, their MC (Courtney’s brother-in-law and maid of honour’s husband) summed Ross up best after his speech, “I think now I’m in love with him.”

With minimal time set aside for “formal” bridal portraiture, lots of the photos were of guests and family enjoying the day, interacting with each other and helping celebrate. Still to come is a blog post dedicated to the hugs and smiles of the day [yes, I’m looking forward to doing it! (“,)].
